I shared this in part of my Commandant's Comments for the Marine Corps League newsletter but I feel it is important to share it here, since many want only to honor the dead on military holidays because of their deep sorrow. But this leaves out the living. Please read this and realize how blessed we are to have those among us who served and were able to return to us again.

"I realize many of us experienced loss far greater than we can express when we think back to our time of service, but let’s remember that this national holiday was given to us as a time to celebrate, or better yet commemorate, the Veteran. The original Veteran's Day proclamation reads in part: in order that a grateful Nation might pay appropriate homage to the Veterans of all its wars who have contributed so much to the preservation of this Nation….  Let us not take away the blessing for those who wish to pay homage to us and offer up a simple “it has been my honor”, because for me, it has indeed been an honor."

Respectfully,

Commandant's Comments

Greetings Members and Friends,

I am proud to announce that the Waukesha County Detachment Marine Corps League received the National Jr. Vice Commandant's Citation for exceeding the previous year's membership within twelve months of the beginning of the current Fiscal Year.  Congratulations to all of our members for your hard work in gaining new members.

Thank you to all who were a part of the Annual Family Picnic.  It was a great success and a good time was had by all.

In the month of August, past Commandant, Lynn Sabel, and I were able to go to the state capital a be part of the National Cell Phones for Soldiers presentation by Governor Scott Walker and the program's co-founder Robbie Bergquist. It was a great priviledge to be there with many other Veteran's organizations, reservist and active duty soldiers, elected officials, as well as capital staff.

The month of September brings our Annual Rose Drive the weekend of September 7th.  Please join us in our largest fundraiser of the year.  Contact the detachment Paymaster, Clarence Stoel, for a location letter and supplies.

Welcome!

Greeting MCL Members,

My name is Yolanda Medina and I am the Commandant for the Waukesha County Detachment Marine Corps League.  I served from 1980-1985, stationed at Cherry Point, NC as an AV8A & AV8B Environmental Systems Technician (better known as a Seat Mech). I was the first female to serve is this capacity in the Marine Corps.

After my husband Joe and I were honorably discharged we moved to Texas and raised our family of 6 children until 1999 when we returned home to Wisconsin where we became active in the local Veteran's organizations.  My goal is to bring increased exposure to this league through community activities, sponsorship, and volunteerism.

Please join me at our monthly meetings and bring your ideas for where were can begin enacting these goals.

Respectfully,
Yolanda Medina
